The Rayen Citadel is the second largest brick building in the world and is located in the southwest of the city of Rayen on the Kerman-Bam road. It is a hilly area with a famous waterfall, which is about 20 minutes away from the citadel, and many people go to this area to see both the waterfall and citadel. It is located on the slopes of the tallest mountain in the area with 2200 meters altitude and has pleasant and refreshing weather.
Rayen Citadel, with an area of more than 22,000 square meters, is a relic of the Sassanid era, and its entire buildings are made of clay. The citadel was residential until around 150 years ago and around 5,000 people lived in it. It is like a sheet of a historical document that is deeply eye-catching with its indented high walls and beautiful guarded towers. When you enter Rayen Citadel , one of the interesting parts that you do not have the chance to see is the security guard post that is located near the entrance and has a view down through a square hole. In the past, the guards controlled and protected the entrance from this point. Besides, from this point boiling water or fire would have been poured on enemies as they entered the citadel during a war.
