The Louvre Museum: A Timeless Masterpiece of Art and History

 

The Louvre, officially the Louvre Museum, is an art museum in the 1st arrondissement of Paris . It is located in the historic Louvre Palace, the former residence of the French kings, on the right bank of the Seine.

The Louvre Museum is not only the most visited, but also the largest museum in the world. The Louvre was originally built as a fortress in 1190 and converted into a royal palace in the 16th century. During its time as a royal residence, the Louvre experienced tremendous growth.

 

 

The Louvre is not only a highlight because of the works of art exhibited in the museum. The building itself is the former royal palace of France and, with the pyramid in the inner courtyard, is one of the most beautiful sights in Paris even from the outside.
It was only the Sun King Louis XIV of France who caused the royal court to move from the Louvre in Paris to nearby Versailles in the 17th century. Only a short time later, the Louvre opened its doors to visitors as a museum.

Persian Collections at Louvre  Are Worth the Journey. At the Louvre, a limestone column whose top is decorated with two kneeling bulls. Thirty-six of these columns once supported the roof of the 128,000-square-foot audience hall in the Darius palace at Susa.

The centerpiece of the main Persian room at the Louvre Museum is the upper part of what was a nearly 70-foot-tall limestone column, decorated at the top with two kneeling bulls. Thirty-six of these columns once supported the roof of the 128,000-square-foot audience hall, or apadana, at Susa. The column was pieced together from several fragments that were found on the site.

 

The most valuable piece in the Louvre museum is the Mona Lisa. The value of the Mona Lisa was estimated at around 860 million dollars in 2020. In the Louvre, the Mona Lisa can be found in the Denon wing. It is protected by a glass case and may only be photographed without a flash. At 77 x 53 cm, the painting is relatively small. There is a second Mona Lisa in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
